SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -- The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's volleyball team defeated Indiana Tech 3-1 (25-17, 22-25, 25-22, 25-15) on Wednesday night at Don Ridler Field House.
Lawrence Tech (16-9, 6-3) was led by Zakia Hunt (SO/Livonia, Mich.) with 12 kills and a .524 hitting percentage while Isabella McDonald (FR/Farmington, Michigan) finished with 10 kills. Kristi Doherty (SO/Davison, Mich.) recorded 37 blocks and four kills with four blocks - two solo and two assists. Makenna Strunk (JR/Northville, Mich.) finished the night with four service aces.
The Blue Devils opened the match with a 25-17 win in set one to take a 1-0 lead, but Indiana Tech was able to battle back and take the second set 25-22 to tie the match at 1-1. Lawrence Tech responded with a 25-22 win in set three, but not before they nearly lost a nine point lead after taking an 11-2 lead. The Warriors climbed back into the set, cutting it to four, 18-14 and then three, 21-18. The Blue Devils closed the set with a kill from Varvara Gromakova (SO/Moscow, Russia).
In the fourth set, Lawrence Tech took another big lead at 12-3 and this time were able to close the set out 25-15 on a kill by McDonald.
Lawrence Tech is back on the court Friday, October 13 at the Indiana Tech Tournament in Fort Wayne, Ind. They open on Friday at 4:30 p.m. against Shawnee State (Ohio) University. Complete schedule at LTUAthletics.com.
