SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -- The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University men's tennis team moved to 5-1 on the year with an 8-1 win over Holy Cross (Ind.) College on Sunday at Southfield Civic Center in Southfield, Mich.
Lawrence Tech (5-1) opened with a 3-0 lead as the Blue Devils' Vincent Colarossi (SR/Dearborn Heights, Mich.) and Mason Wenzel (SR/Howell, Mich.) got this started with an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles. Javier Alvarez (SR/Santiago de Compostela, Spain) and Robert Saitov (SO/Ufa, Bashkortostan Republic Ru) made it 2-0 with an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles followed by Jan Horstkoetter (SR/Cologne, Germany) and Stijn Bremer (SO/Arnhem, Gelderland, Netherland) winning at No. 2 doubles, 8-4.
In singles action, Saitov defeated Dylan Euzarraga at No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-2 to give LTU a 4-0 lead. Stijn Bremer took the lone loss for the Blue Devils at No. 2 singles to make it 4-1 Lawrence Tech. Alvarez's 6-4, 3-6, 10-7 win at No. 1 singles secured the win for the Blue Devils, making it 5-1 with three matches left to play.
Horstkoetter gave LTU a 6-1 lead with a 6-0, 6-0 lead at No. 4 singles followed by Wenzel at No. 5 with a 6-0, 6-0 win. Pat Szymczak made it 8-1 with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles.
Lawrence Tech is back in action February 3, 2018 when they face Grand Valley State (Mich.) in Grand Rapids, Mich. Time to be announced when the spring schedule is announced later this year.
