SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – For the first time in history, the Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's soccer team will compete in the WHAC conference tournament. They travel to 8th ranked University of Northwestern Ohio for a 3:00 P.M. matchup.
Lawrence Tech finished the 2016 regular season with a record of 11-6, 5-5 in the WHAC, their best season to date. They dropped the contest with Aquinas (Mich.) College 2-1 on Saturday, October 29, finalizing a spot in 7th on the WHAC tournament bracket. Ally Nyboer scored the lone goal for the Blue Devils and Heather Derstine recorded 12 saves on 14 shots on goal.
UNOH (15-2-1, 9-1 WHAC) finished their regular season with a 1-0 overtime win over No. 22 Siena Heights on Saturday, October 29 securing them the 2nd seed in the WHAC tournament. Camillia Anderson recorded the only goal in the match in the 97th minute of overtime. Nadine Stonjek was in frame for the Racers, seeing only one shot on goal.
The Blue Devils and the Racers met one week earlier on October 26 for a match that favored UNOH in a slanted 6-nil victory. Anderson again led Northwestern Ohio with three goals. Also scoring was Robyn Moodaly, Evdokia Popadinova and Kristin Tveit. LTU was able to get off only three shots against the Racers' defense while Blue Devil goalkeepers Heather Derstine and Megan Dixon saw 15 shots on goal.
