SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's tennis team fell 8-1 to Lake Superior State (Mich.) University on Friday afternoon at Franklin Athletic Club in Southfield, Mich.
Lawrence Tech (10-7) was able to take one doubles match with Ana Hernandez Munt (JR/Barcelona, Spain) and Brittany Schmidt (SO/Richmond, Mich.) winning 8-5 at No. 3 doubles. Paige Fallu (SO/Livonia, Mich.) and Rylie Fallu (SO/Livonia, Mich.) dropped their match at No. 1 doubles, 8-2 followed by Carolyn McCullen (SO/Westland, Mich.) and Missy Coolsaet (SO/Grosse lle, Mich.) lost 8-2 to give the Lakers a 2-1 lead heading into the singles flights.
The Blue Devils were unable to win a singles flight against Lake Superior State as Hernandez Munt was the closest following a first set 7-6 (3) win, but a 6-0 loss in the second set forced a 10-point tie-breaker which she lost 10-4.
McCullen fell 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, followed by P. Fallu losing 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and R. Fallu losing at No. 3 singles. Coolsaet dropped her match at No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-2 with Schmidt falling 6-3, 6-3 at No. 6 singles.
Lawrence Tech is back on the courts Wednesday, March 30 when they travel to Fort Wayne, Ind., to open WHAC play at Indiana Tech. First serve is set for 4 p.m.
