SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University (LTU) women's tennis team opened the PTR Spring Tennis Fest on March 7 with a 7-2 win against East Stroudsburg (Pa.) on Hilton Head Island, S.C.
Lawrence Tech (8-3) opened the match with a 2-1 advantage as Carolyn McCullen (SO/Westland, Mich.) and Missy Coolsaet (SO/Grosse lle, Mich.) won their match at No. 2 doubles 8-2. Ana Hernandez Munt (JR/Barcelona, Spain) and Brittany Schmidt (SO/Richmond, Mich.) gave LTU a 2-0 lead with a 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles. Paige Fallu (SO/Livonia, Mich.) and Rylie Fallu (SO/Livonia, Mich.) lost 8-5 at No. 1 doubles.
The Blue Devils opened singles play with a win at No. 3 singles as R. Fallu won via retirement up 3-0 in the first set to give LTU a 3-1 lead in the match. McCullen made it 4-1 with her straight sets win at No.2 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Hernandez clinched the match for Lawrence Tech with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles to give LTU the much needed fifth point to secure the match win. P. Fallu fell at No. 1 singles 6-3, 6-3, followed by Coolsaet's win at No. 5, 6-1, 6-1 over Morrissey. The final match was an eight-game pro set win by Schmidt at No. 6 singles, 8-1.
Lawrence Tech is back on the courts of Hilton Head Island on Wednesday, March 9 when they face Michigan Tech.
